My Blog : February 28th will definately be the last Hugglets show I do. My life has moved on enormously over the past year and I am now involved in another business venture. To this end I wish to re-home all of my stock - either via Trade or to personal collectors. At Kensington everything will be priced to sell - I don't want to be taking any stock home with me if I can help it. If you would like a Portobello bear at rock-bottom prices then please let me know now. You may still have layaway but the best price will be for the people who can collect at Kensington (I have to pay someone else to post out my bears for me so those costs have to be taken into consideration). However, I AM prepared to work with you as individuals to give you the best deal I can. There are some beautiful, beautiful bears here............... As always, priority will go to those who have supported me in the past even if it means deferrering payment until later in the year. I am hugely appreciate of those of you who have been loyal to Peggotty over the past 10 years. Where the bears are in America, I have put them all into the same gallery. This means, sadly, that I cannot bring them over - they would have to be posted. Enjoy the galleries - and if it is your intention to visit Kensington to view the bears then please let me know which one(s) you are interested in so that I will know to expect you. I could change the text every day but the gallery will still show an 'updated...' date from when the images were added. What this means to you is that you should ignore the date shown, because by not doing so, you will almost definately miss out on price changes..... ********************************************************************************************** Layaway arrangements. Layaway continues to be available and I am happy to work with you as an individual to help you achieve the character of your dreams. However, in the event of a cancellation further down the line there will be a non-refundable fee which will be agreed with you, in writing, before the layaway commences. For sales made in the UK, my payment preference is for cheques, sent to my Mum-in-Law, Joan, at her address in Shropshire. They should all be sent in one go and post-dated to the same date of each month....i.e 20th June, 20th July, 20th August etc. For sales made in the USA a similar option is available or I can accept Paypal ********************************************************************************************** You can get a much better view of each character if you click on their image. The Two Princesses : ONLY ONE LEFT - These hand-dyed bears were modelled on the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Their taffetta dresses, which reflect the fashion style of the fifties, are voluminous and similar to the famous portrait of the two princesses by Lord Snowdon. The bears are 22" and 20" respectively and can be sold individually or as a pair. Please email me for me details.

Sweet Georgia O''Keefe : Named for the artist so revered in New Mexico, this sweetheart of a bear measures 14". Made from very light blonde, curly mohair she has a pretty embroidered tummy panel of daisies and other flowers. Her accessories include a paint splattered beret, scarf and a basketful of artist's basics such as paintbrush, oils, jointed model ..... Her nose has a splash of red paint. She is a 14" golden blonde made from sparse mohair and wears a blue silk vintage doll's dress, a wool cape and a silk flower in front of her ear. She is an honest-to-goodness example of an earlier Portobello bear (2005) although she has never been sold before. I think when she has visited the shows she's just been overshadowed by some of the more flamboyant, colourful bears. OFFERS INVITED - Artist Bear Gallery : Bears of Grace, Charnwood (Frank Webster), Bosky, Lizbet - they're all here........... Guys, none of these bears are new for 2009. They are the 'left-overs' from the days when I had the shop in Shrewsbury and, although they are new (in the sense that they have never been previously sold) some of them date back as far as '05, '06' 07 etc. All are in A1 condition and have never been near any odour or damp. They are sold in exactly the same condition as all of my stock. Some of the artists are no longer making bears so this is a good opportunity to acquire their work. Some are still around but not doing the shows anymore. Their work is still engaging. I hope you enjoy the characters below ....... most of them are in England. How Sweet Our Love Is : Love is in the air at Portobello. It's all about romance and special memories. 'How Sweet Our Love Is' measures 20". She is made from the finest German Schulte mohair hand-dyed to a rich cinnamon antique colour. This stunningly beautiful bear is complimented by a centre seam head and in her tummy the most exquisite sampler worked by Amy . Amy has used romantic pastels of forget-me-not blue and garden rose pink and at the bottom of the sampler, carnations and forget-me-nots add depth to the detail. She has gently aged the ultra suede pads. This bear is a stunning poetic creation and is quite a solid little bear. The arms and legs are more softly stuffed for a tactile quality.

NEW ARTIST - Diana Seifert: Bel-Ami Bears : ABOUT THE ARTIST Diana Seifert of Bel-Ami Bears, Germany, first started making bears in 2002 after visiting a Teddy Bear show for the first time. She simply loved the work and creations that were on show there. Initially she made bears from commercial patterns of other bear artists, but soon started developing her own style. In the early days most of her bears were in the antique and traditional style , similar to early Steiff from the beginning of the 20th century. And she still claims to love them the most! In 2003 Diana gave up her job as a nurse and she and her partner, Andreas, started their Teddybear business "Bel Ami Bears“ ( Bel-Ami means 'Beautiful Friend' in the French language). Now Diana designs and sews whilst Andreas is the business manager. Bel-Ami characters have found homes all over the world. In 2009 Diana turned her hand to creating cats because "they are my absolute favourite animals.....!" She and Andreas have two "wonderful tomcats". "After all the years of bearmaking I wanted to create something totally new, not only teddybears all the time. And because I´m very interested in history and period clothing I dress most of my bears and cats in historic or antique costumes ...... so I´m always on hunt for very special and exclusive things for the clothing ... things like stunning laces, trims, fabrics… I get my ideas for the dresses from books about historic clothing, pictures of antique dolls dresses, old children´s books and fairytales". I first heard about Diana and her cats from a collector who believes them to be, quite simply, one of the finest examples of hand-crafted work - bar none! I am immensly proud to have Diana's work available at Peggotty ************************************************************************************** MEET THE KITTIES. Florence At 22.4 " (57 cm) Florence has been crafted from cream/white Alpaca. She has turquoise inset glass eyes and slight airbrushing to highlight her facial features. Florence wears a hand-made Victorian outfit with a long skirt, jacket and bonnet made from velvet, silk and antique lace. Hermine Hermine is a 17.7 inch (45 cm) kitty crafted from 'iced toffee' (brown pile with cream white tips) Alpaca. She has blue glass eyes (not inset) and wears an Edwardian outfit - a romantic blue silk dress that matches the colour of her eyes! - together with a straw hat adorned with pink flowers Mary Mary is just a smidgeon under 20" (50 cm). She too is made from a creamy/white alpaca with understated airbrushing to her face. Mary has amber coloured glass eyes (not inset) and wears an balck velvet Elizabethan dress and bonnet with trimmings and pearls Each cat is 5-way-jointed, has wire inlays in arms,legs and tail and is stuffed with Polyfill. Mrs Simpson's Faithful Bear : Collectors, I have to tell you that you are really missing out here. In all the years I have been re-homing Portobello bears I can name about 20 that I would really love to keep. And this is one of them. This 22" girl has the sweetest, most enquiring face you can ever imagine and I think the naming of her was inspirational. She exudes charisma, has piercing eyes and a wonderful knowing look about her that says 'tell me your secrets and I'll keep them forever'. Perhaps is her colour that is putting you off? Personally, I love it - I have to say that these images are as true a reflection of her colour without seeing her in the fur. She has a delightful squidginess about her and is a bear made for carrying around. If she's still around when I return for Hugglets (next February) I'm bringing her back and keeping her. This bear is in ENGLAND

Hi Collectors,

Welcome to the PEGGOTTY website which shows some of the many, many bears that I have in stock. Look around ... and prepare to be delighted!

SO, who or what is PEGGOTTY?

Well, Peggotty has been in business for over 16 years and made it's name for selecting and making available to collectors only the most exquisite of artist bears by proven artists. For 9 of those years it has been under my ownership and I'm so proud of what I have to offer.

Years ago I made the decision to specialise In Portobello Bears. Why? Simply because I love them. I love the characters, I love their vintage and antique accessories, I love the creativeness of them and the thought process that goes into each individual critter. But in the time I was concentrating on just one artist I lost sight of the progression of bear artisitry. Now I am returning to my roots - that of having a selection of the finest bears (and critters!) by some of the finest artists worldwide. Bookmark this site and keep coming back to see who has been added to the artist list.

Virtually all of the bears are one-off's and cannot be repeated so once you've found the bear that really captures your heart get in touch - I'm sure we can make it happen for you. Just email me and we can discuss a plan that works for both of us.

Being an Old Bear freak myself, I occasionally have an 'old boy' for re-homing. It's painful .... but sometimes a must.

As many of you know, I moved from the heart of the English countryside almost 4 years ago and now live in Texas. A great place to be but I miss the English shows and meeting you all more than I can tell you.

HOWEVER, onwards and upwards and my aim now is to make European artists more accessible to American and Canadian collectors.
